Welcome

FizzieFBHVCFootman James

What were most 15yr old boys dreaming of in the early 1970’s?

Correct, the Yamaha FS1E, their passage to manhood, no longer would they be cadging lifts off Dad, assuming Dad had a car; no they would have their own transport, a moped!

Known as a “Fizzie”, a “Fizzy” or sometimes just a “Fizz”, the ubiquitous Yamaha FS1E has a special place in history, for five short years it reigned supreme in the “Sixteener Special” or “Super Moped” charts.

Some mopeds were faster: Fantic GT, Cimatti Sagittario, Garelli Tiger Cross, Suzuki AP50, Malaguti Olympique. Some were more reliable, Honda SS50, Zündapp KS50, Derbi GT4V. Some had better specification: Batavus MK4S, Puch Grand Prix Special, Casal Phantom 5. Some were better looking: Gitane Champion, Flandria SP947, AJW Greyhound. Some were better off road: Gilera Trial/Enduro, Malaguti Monte and Cavalcone, KTM Comet Cross, Cimatti Kaiman Yamaha TY50, Fantic Caballero and some were more outrageous: Fantic Chopper, Malaguti Hombre and Milani.

But none ever reached the iconic status of the Fizzy, few others have men in their 40’s regaling like minded individuals with tales of foot dragging wheelies and performance enhancing modifications, the result of which sees those same individuals bidding a Million pounds for the correct circlip to complete the restoration of “the one I had when I was 16”.
